Bill Smith

became a Co-opted Governor in March 2015. He is the chair of the Full Governing Body and the Community, Communications and Marketing Committee. Bill is a director of two local companies, is actively involved in three local charities and, until November 2016, represented the Applethwaite Ward on Windermere Town Council. Bill is a recognised expert in the provision of bespoke business support focused on identifying opportunities to revitalise retail activity in towns and villages across the UK.

Mr Andy Cunningham


is Headteacher at The Lakes School.

Mark Scaife

Mark is Vice-chair of governors and became a parent governor in April 2016. His older children were pupils at the school and his youngest daughter and son are now at The Lakes School. He is an Engineering Manager, providing project, financial and people management within major engineering programmes, and seeks to use the skills that he applies in his day-to-day work for the benefit of the school. He has previously been a Parent Governor and has chaired a governing body and committees. From this he has gained an understanding of how a governing body can support the school yet hold it accountable for the education and opportunities it provides our children. His aims are to promote high standards of education and achievement and to provide the best possible support for our children as they grow into young, independent adults.

John Seed

who is the Site Manager at school, became a Staff Governor in October 2013. He previously served on the Governing Body as a Parent Governor from 2000 to 2008 whilst his two children were at the school. Prior to joining the staff in 2009 John worked in the National Health Service doing personnel work and running an Outdoor Centre near Windermere. He has over forty years’ experience as a Youth Leader in the voluntary sector.

Sarah McGraw

joined the governing body in December 2013. She is a chartered management accountant and has worked for some large household names. Sarah currently works for a large local employer. She is a former Lakes School student and lives in Bowness, with her husband and two children. Both Sarah’s children attend the Lakes School. Sarah has been an active member of the PTA at her children’s primary school for many years.

Margaret Lewis

is Chair of the Staffing, Teaching and Learning Committee, is a Co-opted Governor who has worked in education for over thirty years. She has held a variety of posts in both schools and local authorities and from 1996 until her retirement in 2008 worked as a Team Registered, Accredited Inspector and Trainer for Ofsted.

Vivienne Rees

is a Local Authority Governor and is the vice-chair of the Staffing, Teaching and Learning Committee. Her children both attended The Lakes School. Vivienne taught History at The Lakes School for twenty five years and was Head of Sixth Form from 1987 to 1996.  She has been a District Councillor since 2006 and is a member of the Lake District National Park Authority as well as remaining busy as a Lakes Parish Councillor. Her interest in history continues and she is a trustee of the Armitt Museum and Library, the Cumbria County History Trust and is a SLDC rural heritage champion.

Sue Wileman

became a Staff Governor in October 2013. She is the School Business Manager at The Lakes School.

Alan Katz

is a chartered accountant, retired from practice in corporate recovery and insolvency work, and continues to be involved with professional examinations and service on insolvency technical committees. He is a Rotarian and is involved with a number of local and international charitable causes.

Jane Butterfield

Jane joined the governing body in April 2016 as a parent governor.  She has 3 children, the oldest of which is at the Lakes School. Jane was a sales manager for various textile manufacturers in the Midlands before moving up to the Lake District 9 years ago.

She has previously been a governor at one of the local primary schools.

Paul Taylor

became a parent Governor in October 2013 and is the Chair of the Finance and Resources Committee.
