YEAR TEN - X

Getting off to a flying start is essential in Year 10. You are studying the subjects you love and everyone of them matters to your future. We talk to you a lot about having an excellent attitude to learning in your lessons and you need it more than ever as you start Year 10. The autumn term will fly by so make sure you are keeping on top of your homework, assignments, exam practice and revision.

During Year 10, your teachers will be encouraging you to attend study support sessions and they will be providing you with an opportunity to learn all of the skills and knowledge you need to do well in your courses. Listen carefully, work hard and grab every opportunity you can to get ahead with your GCSE courses.

At The Lakes School, we understand the pressures and challenges that come with studying GCSE subjects so we provide many students with a mentor who might be a member of staff or even an older sixth form student. The great thing about our vertical tutor group system at the school is that you can easily ask our experienced Year 11 students for help and advice about the courses you are studying.

Enjoy Year 10 and make the most of all of the oportunities available to you as Year 11 will come around quickly.

Curriculum
So, you are now starting Year 10 and your curriculum is tailored towards helping you secure a broad and balanced range of qualifications. The curriculum at The Lakes School is designed to help you focus on achieving well in your core subjects and your options choices. The diagram below shows the number of lessons you will study for each subject. Each of the blocks represent a one hour lesson across your two week timetable.

Work Experience at The Lakes School

During Year 10, all students are given an opportunity to take part in work experience. At the Lakes School, we believe that work experience provides a valuable experience for our students as they begin to consider their future. We are very lucky as a number of businesses and companies support our students with placements and we are very proud to say that we receive so many lovely comments about our students whilst on work experience.

Below, you will find a letter to parents and consent forms which will help you manage your work experience placement.

For more information about work experience, please contact Debbie Mills at the school.
